Encouraging children to be physically active every day

About the Creator

AuthorCatherine Chapman has been learning about nutrition since 1981, when her daughter was born. Her husband and his family have a history of Diabetes and as a result, her children are at risk so good nutrition is an important part of their lives. She has studied infant to preschool nutrition (establishing healthy eating patterns) and nutrition for children and teenagers (encouraging  healthy eating habits). She is certified in childhood and adolescent nutrition and is a published author.

Catherine has two children; a daughter and a son, who are both adults now. When they were young, Catherine taught her children the values of healthy eating with characters that she created from fruits and vegetables.  This concept worked well and now both her children have a sound knowledge of healthy eating, a gift they can pass on to their children.

Catherine created a series of characters and named them the Take 5 Plus 2 Team. These characters are synonymous with the Government Health Message: Go for 2 and 5. The Take5 Plus 2 Team encourages children to eat five serves of vegetables and two serves of fruit daily.

Two of the characters from the team, Posh Pear and Busy Broccoli, are currently attending  schools  teaching children the healthy eating message.

Catherine is passionate about educating children at an early age, to grasp the concept of eating healthy for life. Her characters are entertaining and they have engaging personalities so that children can relate to them and see them as being fun.
